Jet milling: a key process for manufacturing inhaled particles

This event is now available on demand.

Event Overview:

Carrier-based formulations for dry powder inhalers are precisely designed to transport extremely small particles (1-5 µm) into the lungs. When developing a carrier-based formulation, jet milling can be used to micronize these particles. High or low shear mixing processes can both be applied to formulate mixtures capable of carrying the fine API particles into the deep lung.
During this webcast, the following questions will be addressed:
  • What are the requirements for pulmonary delivery and carrier-based inhaled powder formulations?
  • How can jet milling be used to manufacture effective and stable materials for these formulations?
  • How is it integrated into the overall formulation development process?
Key Learning Objectives:
  • Explore the advantages of an integrated approach for a carrier-based formulation development, understanding essential considerations from micronized material, through blending to capsule filling.
  • Learn how to effectively screen the jet milling process on a smaller scale and ensure seamless scale-up.
  • Gain insights into the role of jet-milling energy and quality by design (QbD) in facilitating a smooth development and scale-up journey.
Who Should Attend:
  • Pharmaceutical-industry directors
  • Principal Investigators/CMC Leads
  • Manufacturing and development engineers and scientists

Technical Sales Manager
Lonza

Ilaria Valente is technical sales manager at Lonza, specializing in the micronization of small molecule APIs. With a commercial background, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages for Communication and Business from the Catholic University of Milan. She started her career in sales, progressed through account management and business development roles, and then in 2018 moved to the drug substance technical sales team. With a decade of experience in the micronization business, her role has recently expanded to include integrated offer services. In her role, she is responsible for the evaluation of requests from customers, calculating costs for services and production scenarios, and supporting the sales organization in writing micronization and integrated services proposals. Ilaria is also responsible for coordinating the technical team during the evaluation process.
