Indena Receives Corporate Social Responsibility Award for Centella asiatica Harvesting Project
Indena’s Centella asiatica project in Madagascar focused on improving the living conditions of the local communities involved in Centella asiatica harvesting.
Indena was announced the winner of the Corporate Social Responsibility category of the 2016 CPhI Pharma Awards. The company specializes in the production of botanical extracts for the pharma, health-food, and personal care industries. In 2013, Indena launched its Sustainable Sourcing program with the aim to have a fully sustainable supply chain.
The winning entry was Indena’s Centella asiatica project in Madagascar, which started in October 2015, and focused on improving the living conditions of the local communities involved in Centella asiatica harvesting as well as decreasing poverty in the local communities. Centella asiatica is a wild plant that Indena sources exclusively from Madagascar.
Another goal was to increase the quality of education and school attendance of the children in the region. Indena’s efforts included: distributing educational materials, training of teachers, and building or renovating infrastructures such as libraries and restrooms. The project has benefited five schools, 30 teachers, and approximately 1500 children.
