Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group’s 530 peristaltic pump includes an enhanced operator and control system interface.

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group, a manufacturer of peristaltic pumps and associated fluid path technologies, will be showcasing its new 530 peristaltic cased pump for upstream and downstream biopharmaceutical applications at INTERPHEX 2016. The pumps deliver flow rates from 0.0001 mL/min to 3.5 L/min at up to 7 bar, thereby simplifying process scaling. The pumphead determines both the flow rate and the pressure that can be achieved to match the needs of the specific biopharmaceutical process.

The new 530 pumps includes an enhanced operator and control system interface which contribute to step-change improvements in validated process security. New features include color human-machine interface display and menu structures that provide visual status indication and minimal key presses. The pumps also include process security with the addition of a 3-level PIN lock. This lock means operators only have access to functionality they have been assigned, ensuring that the process remains secure and there is no opportunity for costly mistakes to be made.

The pumps can be used for single-use bioprocessing applications. Peristaltic technology is ideal for biopharm applications, as the pumped fluid is totally contained within the tube, thus providing complete isolation of the fluid. The technology also offers attributes such as low-pulse flow and gentle, low-shear operation to help maximize live cell retention.
