Double Rotary Press Is Designed for Large Batches

The F30i double rotary tablet press from Fette Compacting is the second of its new i Series.

Fette Compacting’s F30i double rotary tablet press is designed for large batches, with an output of up to 1.6 million tablets per hour. The press is optimized for the production of two-layer tablets. Fast sampling of the first layer allows precise monitoring of tablet weight and minimizes product loss.

The F30i is the second of the company’s new i Series; the first machine was the F10i, a single rotary press for smaller batches. Both the F10i and F30i have a dust-tight standard design to protect operators. Stable underpressure in the interior prevents any dust from being released from the machine. The F30i can also be equipped with containment when processing potent APIs. The fully automated tableting process eliminates the need to break containment. Operators can safely access the machine interior using glove ports in the window flaps that are monitored by the machine’s safety controls. A rapid transfer port permits the introduction and removal of material, tools, and punches. To limit operator exposure during cleaning, the amount of surface that needs to be cleaned has been reduced by 71% compared to earlier models.

The new i Series is compatible with earlier generations of tablet presses. As a result, die and turret rotors can be adopted from the earlier models. This compatibility also reduces the effort involved in validation and qualification from several weeks to only a few days.

The new press is digitally connected using open interface standards and is easily integrated using “plug-and-play”. Software is designed to avoid operating errors, with intuitive control, monitoring, and documentation of the machine and process equipment. Vibrations and audible sounds provide tactile feedback on contact with the multi-touch display, providing additional safety during entries. A workflow operation wizard guides users through standard procedures and can be used to save work steps, define process sequences, and open checklists. A SmartInterface app enables production processes to be monitored in real time via mobile devices and allows production managers to view the manufacturing process regardless of their location.
