Continuous high-shear granulation and drying system improves efficiency

The ConsiGma continuous high-shear granulation and drying system from GEA Pharma Systems uses continuous production technology instead of traditional batch technology to produce granules. The system is about one-fourth the size of a traditional granulation line and can run from 500 g for research and development up through production-size batches. Because it is a continuous process, larger amounts do not require a larger machine, but only a longer time. Eliminating scale-up helps reduce development time and cost. ConsiGma has been shown to improve intra-granular porosity and compressibility characteristics.

Semi-automatic system tests tablet physical parameters

The SmartTest 50 tests up to five physical parameters (weight, thickness, width, diameter/length, and hardness) of virtually all tablet shapes. Tablet samples are placed in the carousel by the operator and all further testing is conducted automatically. To ensure trouble-free alignment, an integrated cleaning function removes debris and broken tablet fragments from all contact surfaces of the hardness station after each measurement, including platen surfaces. The system is also available with the company's SmartCal calibration tool. Using a single reference weight, the tool verifies an entire hardness range. Up to 23 tablets can be tested in one run.

A flexible platform for producing all tablet formats on a single tablet press

A flexible system is available from Korsch that enables single-layer, bi-layer, tri-layer, and core-coated tablets to be produced on a single tablet press by using modular components. The XL 400FT MFP features a modular carrier plate and head piece that allow for the installation of a range of compression roller modules, feeder modules, and cam track modules. In addition, the system's exchangeable turret design permits removal of the entire turret, including cam track, lower cam track, and press tools. Turret removal is initiated by the push of a button and can be completed in less than 10 minutes.
