Fluid Imaging has introduced a new imaging flow microscope at Pittcon 2018 in Orlando, FL.
Fluid Imaging, a manufacturer of particle analysis instrumentation, has introduced the FlowCam Nano, a new flow imaging nanoparticle analyzer that provides early warning system of colloidal activity for formulation scientists, at Pittcon on Feb. 26, 2018 in Orlando, FL.
The analyzer automatically detects, images, and characterizes both micron- and submicron-sized particles in a fluid sample and is suitable for testing therapeutic protein formulations, lyophilized biologics, and injectable drugs.
The FlowCam line provides the submicron images necessary to function as an early warning system of colloidal activity and the protein or silicon oil origins. The real-time images are important in identifying the origins of protein aggregation.
By understanding how the colloidal stability of different formulations compare, manufacturers are better able to balance efficacy, safety, and shelf life to find the ideal formulation that remains stable throughout the process, according to the company.
In addition to its introduction at Pittcon, the device was featured in a technical poster presented at the conference in which Professor John F. Carpenter and Cheng Her from the University of Colorado Denver documented differences in particle size distributions in different parenteral drug product formulations.
The device has led researchers to conclude that it effectively assesses the colloidal stability of drug product formulations by providing high-resolution images for opaque, transparent, and translucent sub-visible particles and corresponding measurement data using more than 40 different basic and advanced morphological parameters.
On Feb. 27, 2018, the analyzer won the silver award at the Pittcon Today Excellence Awards for its real-time ability to image and characterize nanoparticles.
