NIH to Sponsor Events for Rare Disease Day

The events will feature activities and discussion panels for patients, patient advocates, health care providers, researchers, industry representatives, and government employees.

The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Clinical Center and National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) will sponsor events on Feb. 28, 2020 for Rare Disease Day, which will be observed worldwide on Feb. 29, 2020.

According to the NIH website, the theme for the day is “Patients & Researchers-Partners for Life”, and it will feature a variety of activities and discussion panels for patients, patient advocates, health care providers, researchers, industry representatives, and government employees including:

  • Shortening the diagnostic odyssey discussion panel

  • Individualized therapies and personalized medicine discussion panel

  • Expanding and improving access to rare diseases knowledge discussion panel

  • Inspiring stories through TED-style talks

  • NIH Town Hall question-and-answer session

  • NIH clinical trial resources.

  • Posters and exhibits by rare disease groups and researchers

  • Artwork and tours of the NIH Clinical Center and National Library of Medicine

The proceedings will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the NIH main campus in Bethesda, MD.
