The new filters extend column life and reduce contamination while simplifying sample preparation.

Pall has introduced Acrodisc syringe filters with universal water-wettable polytetrafluoroethylene (wwPTFE) membranes for analytical instrument applications. The new syringe filter helps protect ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) columns and instrumentation from particulate buildup and helps ensure accurate data, Pall reported in a May 26, 2020 press release

The new filters can:

  • extend column life up to 52 times

  • reduce contamination with up to 24% less filter extractables than competitive products

  • simplify sample preparation, saving time and money.

The Acrodisc syringe filter with wwPTFE membrane is especially applicable for aqueous samples and solutions containing aggressive organic solvents. Accurate analysis is ensured with UHPLC certification for low levels of ultraviolet-absorbing extractables. In addition, the filters’ universal use helps avoid the expense and inconvenience of keeping a variety of filtration products in inventory, according to Pall.

Acrodisc syringe filters with wwPTFE are available in 13 mm and 25 mm sizes. The 13-mm filter is available with a minispike outlet that offers low hold-up volume and easy filtration into autosampler vials. This feature filters four times as much sample with the same hold-up loss as a typical 4-mm filter. An optional asymmetric glass-fiber prefilter also is available that provides higher particulate-holding capacity for greater throughput and volume.

The wwPTFE membrane is also available in Nanosep spin devices for low volumes and AcroPrep Advance filter plates for processing up to 96 samples at once.
