Sharp to Expand US Packaging Capacity and Capabilities

Contract packaging and clinical supply service company Sharp invested $21 million to expand its packaging capacity and capabilities in Pennsylvania.

Sharp, a provider of contract packaging and clinical supply services, announced a $21-million investment to expand its packaging capacity and capabilities at its Allentown and Conshohocken, PA, facilities.

The latest expansion in the Allentown campus includes a co-investment with one of Sharp’s clients and represents the third phase of development of its biotechnology center of excellence. New equipment will include vial labelers and a cold sterilization system.

In April 2016, building four of the Allentown campus opened as the company’s injectables center of excellence. When the Allentown facility was built, it included an additional area of undeveloped space of approximately 21,500 ft2. Subsequent investment doubled pre-filled syringe, autoinjector, and pen assembly capacity and increased cold storage capacity at the site as part of the company’s goal to meet growing demand from the injectable device and biologics markets.

The company has made numerous investments in its global facilities over recent years, including $11 million on its new clinical services center of excellence in Wales, UK, an additional $11 million on enhancing its injectable and cold-chain capabilities in the United States, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and $23 million on its recently refitted state-of-the-art facility in Bethlehem, PA.

Sharp will be exhibiting at stand 2046 at CPhI North America, Chicago, IL, taking place April 30–May 2, 2019.
