The company is switching to a more powerful and energy-efficient technology at its production site in Pfreimd, Germany.

Gerresheimer announced that it is modernizing its German production site in Pfreimd and investing in more powerful and energy-efficient technology. The first phase of the construction process, which involves renovating the whole of the clean room in Hall 2, has been completed; Halls 1 and 3 will follow. The close partnership between the production and building management teams has enabled construction work to be completed in eight weeks.

Hall 2 had a major renovation 14 years ago, and an overhaul was required for quality reasons and also in view of potential energy-saving measures identified. The rebuilding work involved gutting the entire clean room down to its shell and rebuilding it, fitting state-of-the-art ventilation technology equipped with fan filter units (FFUs). Areas of the hall was closed off one by one and then renovated over the eight-week period. The entire technical infrastructure was removed, including the ventilation, water supply, lighting, electrics, and all the walls and ceilings. Everything was then completely re-installed, certified, and commissioned. The total investment for this construction stage was within the seven-figure range, according to Gerresheimer.

Gerresheimer’s Pfreimd facility covers the entire production chain from injection molding to assembly and control, through to clean room packaging of medical products. Product portfolio at this site includes customized inhalers, pen systems, infusion sets, components for needless syringes, cuvettes, and lancets.
